Answering common questions......

Hopefully the questions below cover most of the common queries people have about the Helios. However, if you can't find the answer you are looking for, then please ask us directly. If it's a good question, we'll add it to the list!
WHY IS THE HELIOS CALLED THE BIKE FOR ALL REASONS?

If you have a reason for using a bike, then Helios will probably be able to do it! People carrying, child transportation, shopping, touring, exercise, sport and just plain old fun, the Helios can do it all.

WILL THE HELIOS FIT ME?

We designed the Helios to be one size fits nearly all! We’ve had front riders (the ‘Captain’) between 4’11” and 6’5″ and rear riders (the ‘Stoker’) between 3yrs old and 6′. The probability is that it will fit you, but if you are approaching the extremes, we recommend visiting a dealer for a fitting.

MUCH IS MADE OF THE HELIOS FOR RIDING WITH CHILDREN, HOW IS IT FOR TWO ADULTS?

We see the Helios primarily as a bicycle for two, working perfectly with any combination of adults and children, providing they are within the size and weight recommendations. Many adult couples have used the Helios regularly for utility, all levels of touring and sportif/audax type events.

WHAT ARE THE RIDER WEIGHT RECOMMENDATIONS?

Although the Helios is so versatile, we still wanted a bike that was light, both for transportation and for sporty performance and, as with any lightweight bike, we recommend a combined maximum weight for the riders of 170kg. Within this limitation, we recommend that the front rider should not exceed 100kg and the rear 80kg.

WHY SMALL WHEELS?

We use 20″ (ISO 406) wheels. Tandems need strong wheels and smaller wheels offer an unbeatable combination of strength and light weight. In the ISO 406 size, there is a vast range of tyres from the super light, fast 1″ Schwalbe Durano, through a variety of 1.5 – 1.75″ general use or touring tyres, to the 2″ Schwalbe Big Apple.

Using the smaller wheel size also allowed us to make the tandem compact. For the first time, it is possible to transport a tandem inside a medium sized hatchback!
CAN I CARRY LUGGAGE ON THE HELIOS?

The Helios can be fitted with a conventional rear rack for using typical bike panniers or rack top bag. It also has a mounting point on the headtube that will allow the use of a variety of bags or baskets, ideal for shopping or touring and not being attached to the fork or handlebar, there is minimal affect on the steering and handling.
For heavier duty load carrying the rear seat can be removed and substituted with the dedicated Cargo rack system. This will take two child seats, or any variety of bulkier items across the top. There is also the option of a low rider rack system for the front fork.

THE HELIOS IS VERY COMPACT, CAN I TRANSPORT IT IN MY CAR?

With the front wheel removed and the handlebar and seat posts quick released off, the Helios will stand upright across the diagonal of the luggage space (rear seats folded) of most small to medium hatch backs. There should be enough room for the front passenger and depending on the rear seat arrangement, might be room for a passenger in the back.
It will fit across the back, or inside the garage, of most vans or campers.

WE KEEP SEEING HOW COMPACT THE HELIOS IS, BUT WHAT ARE THE ACTUAL DIMENSIONS?

The standard Helios measures 2110mm. With the front wheel removed it comes down to 1900mm.

The wheelbase (axle to axle) is 1640mm and with the fork turned around this reduces to 1560mm.

DOES THE HELIOS COME IN ANY OTHER COLOUR THAN BLACK?

The standard Helios colour is black, but for something more distinctive, or personalised, we can offer custom paint finishes. Depending on the finish and complexity of design, this costs from £450.
