By easily fitting inside even quite small cars, the Helios is already one of the most compact tandems available, but there are situations, like air transportation, where an even more manageable size is desirable.
Overview
Simply designing with a folding mechanism doesn't make for a notably smaller package, so we decided to design a separable system that would enable various packing options for different situations. We've found that a pure coupling system can be a bit fiddly on a tandem, so developed a hybrid compression tube/coupling system, with the pinch bolt compression drainpipe being used to hold and stabilize the main frame parts together, before inserting the coupled top tube.
The separable kit can be fitted to any of our Helios models, or, if you already own a Helios, it can be retro-fitted (from £800). The separable kit will allow the Helios to be fitted into the Traveller case, two carry bags, or two off-the-shelf suitcases. Other useful applications of the separable kit are fitting it into the boot of a car or into a roof box; it can also be useful for storing the tandem. (Please note that the 'Separable Kit' price is in addition to the price of a tandem, and does not include the Traveller case)
